Paris welcomed the EQSI – European Quantum Software Institute, with a launch event on 8 November 2022.
EQSI is an initiative by six founding institutions that have been working together on projects over the last years, represented at the launch event by: Yasser Omar from PQI – Portuguese Quantum Institution, Harry Buhrman from QSoft, Matthias Christandl from QuMATH–Denmark, Robert Koenig from TU Munich, Andris Ambainis from Univ Latvia and Iordanis Kerenidis from PCQC–France.
According to Yasser Omar, "PQI – Portuguese Quantum Institution is very proud to be a founding member of EQSI – European Quantum Software Institute. There is a common misunderstanding that the current limitations of quantum computation are due only to the challenge of scaling quantum hardware. However, there is still a lot to develop at the quantum software level to make quantum computers useful for scientific and industrial applications. EQSI aims precisely at pushing the state of the art of quantum algorithms and their applications, in close cooperation with hardware developers, contributing to making Europe competitive and autonomous in this strategic domain.”
The european collaboration will be intensified and expanded with EQSI which, through co-creation with industry partners and Quantum Hardware, aims to align development processes and achieve responsible innovation in Europe for Quantum Software and Quantum Algorithms.
Future activities of EQSI include stakeholder sessions with industry, community-building events and joint education programmes.
